Ten Things to Do on a Day Like This

When I come to this part of the year and have day after day with blocks of free time, I simply run out of interesting things to do.  So I thought I would make some suggestions for all of us, to help with our boredom.  Here are ten suggestions to break the boredom on a day like this:

:

10) Board games-  get out the old monopoly, parcheesi, et.al. and watch the family enjoy these classics.  I forget, sometimes, how much fun it is to play them.

9) Set up a Bible drill.  See who can find and doccument the names of God, fruits and vegetables mentioned in the old testament,  Make up other interesting things to research.  Have a prize for the winners.

8) Go for a walk around the neighborhood, say hello to everyone you see and show an interest in their property, i.e., recent landscaping, how well their tree is doing, catch up on their family events, etc.

7) Call people of the church to come over for coffee and “prayer & share.”  This modern version of the prayer meeting/testimony recital can be very helpful for those who have never regularly participated in anything like this.

6) Have a read fest.  Let everyone in the house pick a book to read that day and have everyone share the mains points of their book this evening at dinner or just after dinner.  Winner escapes dish duty.

5) Take the day to visit shut-ins. Sing with them.  Brighten their day by taking them a home-baked treat.

4) Take some time to call all your long-distance friends and relatives.  Put each family member on the line to share in their own way.

3) Give of yourself:  Take time to do tasks at church that would otherwise go undone, i.e. gardening, dusting, cleaning, organizing, etc.

2) Take the whole family on an extended picnic.  Take all day, with games, contests, etc.  Better yet, ask another family to join.  Think of ways to enhance this fellowship.

1) Set yourself aside, go to the prayer closet and fellowship with God, in Word and prayer.  Take your prayer list with you.  Put “do not disturb” on the door.  Spend the day in fellowship with God.

I think that this type of commitment will reap benefits for you and your family.  Peace be unto all of you!

Oh come, let us sing to the Lord ! Let us shout joyfully to the Rock of our salvation. Let us come before His presence with thanksgiving; Let us shout joyfully to Him with psalms.
Psalm 95:1-2 (NKJV)

A Plan of Thanksgiving II

1 CHRONICLES 16:7-36 NIV

That day David first appointed Asaph and his associates to give praise to the Lord in this manner:   Give praise to the Lord , proclaim his name; make known among the nations what he has done.   Sing to him, sing praise to him; tell of all his wonderful acts.   Glory in his holy name; let the hearts of those who seek the Lord rejoice.   Look to the Lord and his strength; seek his face always.   Remember the wonders he has done, his miracles, and the judgments he pronounced,   you his servants, the descendants of Israel, his chosen ones, the children of Jacob.   He is the Lord our God; his judgments are in all the earth.   He remembers his covenant forever, the promise he made, for a thousand generations,   the covenant he made with Abraham, the oath he swore to Isaac.   He confirmed it to Jacob as a decree, to Israel as an everlasting covenant:   “To you I will give the land of Canaan as the portion you will inherit.”   When they were but few in number, few indeed, and strangers in it,   they wandered from nation to nation, from one kingdom to another.   He allowed no one to oppress them; for their sake he rebuked kings:   “Do not touch my anointed ones; do my prophets no harm.”   Sing to the Lord , all the earth; proclaim his salvation day after day.   Declare his glory among the nations, his marvelous deeds among all peoples.   For great is the Lord and most worthy of praise; he is to be feared above all gods.   For all the gods of the nations are idols, but the Lord made the heavens.   Splendor and majesty are before him; strength and joy are in his dwelling place.   Ascribe to the Lord , all you families of nations, ascribe to the Lord glory and strength.   Ascribe to the Lord the glory due his name; bring an offering and come before him. Worship the Lord in the splendor of his holiness.   Tremble before him, all the earth! The world is firmly established; it cannot be moved.   Let the heavens rejoice, let the earth be glad; let them say among the nations, “The Lord reigns!”   Let the sea resound, and all that is in it; let the fields be jubilant, and everything in them!   Let the trees of the forest sing, let them sing for joy before the Lord , for he comes to judge the earth.   Give thanks to the Lord , for he is good; his love endures forever.   Cry out, “Save us, God our Savior; gather us and deliver us from the nations, that we may give thanks to your holy name, and glory in your praise.”   Praise be to the Lord , the God of Israel, from everlasting to everlasting. Then all the people said “Amen” and “Praise the Lord .”
