Prayer of the Day – November 6th

There are so many mysteries in the world and in life, O Lord. My eyes are tired of straining into the dark. I can only follow on to know you, but I believe that your going forth is as sure as the morning. In the meanwhile, refresh my heart as the rain.

Mark of Divine Approval

“Blessed is the man that endureth temptation: for when he is tried, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord hath promised to them that love him.” James 1:12

Yes, he is blessed while he is enduring the trial. No eye can see this till it has been anointed with heavenly eye-salve. But he must endure it, and neither rebel against God, nor turn aside from his integrity. He is blessed who has gone through the fire, and has not been consumed as a counterfeit.

When the test is over, then comes the hallmark of divine approval — “the crown of life.” As if the Lord said, “Let him live; he has been weighed in the balances, and he is not found wanting.” Life is the reward: not mere being; but holy, happy, true existence, the realization of the divine purpose concerning us. Already a higher form of spiritual life and enjoyment crowns those who have safely passed through fiercest trials of faith and love.

The Lord hath promised the crown of life to those who love Him. Only lovers of the Lord will hold out in the hour of trial; the rest will either sink or sulk, or slink back to the world. Come, my heart, dost thou love thy Lord? Truly? Deeply? Wholly? Then that love will be tried; but many waters will not quench it, neither will the floods drown it. Lord, let thy love nourish mine to the end.

A Brief Note on the Symantecs of Evolution

The most effective lies are those that are based on a partial truth. The package of beliefs, notions, theories and hypotheses that are known as “Evolution” are no exception!  All of “evolution” is not true.  At the very least, a fair-minded individual would have to admit that most of it cannot be proven by the scientific method.  But, all the same, I cringe when someone says that “evolution” is a total lie, because people hear that, see the part of evolution that makes sense and discounts anything said after that about “evolution” being false.

We are familiar with the part of evolution that says we evolved from a one celled organism into homo sapiens mankind.  Most would agree that there is no proof for this.  There is a missing link showing the transition, which is to say where is the proof?  You can see many species of animals for instance and geneticists say surely one evolved from the other, but where is the in between creature?  Extinct, they say!  Isn’t it suspicious (and against the scientific method) that in all these cases, all the “in-between” links went extinct?  The former version survived, even though it was disadvantaged and “replaced” with a more fit version…and the ultimate version survived in all its evolutionary splendor!  But the very link in between, that could prove trans-specie natural selection is missing.  It did not survive….every single time!  How can anyone dedicated to the scientific method of discovery ever believe that bunk?

The part of “evolution known as “natural selection” (perhaps better known as survival of the fittest) is absolutely true, to a point.  We see it in action around us.  Mankind has not been protective of some species, and they have gone extinct.  At the top of the food chain, we should have done better.  But my point is, if you say natural selection is a lie, by lumping it together under the general title of “evolution”, then you are simply mistaken, despite your good intentions, and no one hears anything else you have to offer.  Your lie has discredited you.

Of all the people debating this issue, less than half are truly well-informed on all the aspects.  It takes study!  You cannot just take one part you do not agree with and proclaim evolution to be bunk, any more than your opponent can take one part they believe in and fill in the blanks to say all of evolution is true.

A lot has been said about “faith” and how it takes more faith to believe in evolution than it takes to believe in the Biblical account of creation.  If both sides tried better to understand the topics, the answer would be obvious.  Facts and conclusions based upon the scientific method are seen on both sides.  Faith-based conclusions are present on both sides.  This controversy may go on until the end of time.  But we must be careful to know both sides of an issue before we make strong dogmatic statements.

I assume this post will draw some comments.  Let’s keep them on point and avoid name-calling, pigeon-holing, stereotyping, etc.  Let’s be respectful of one another, otherwise how can anyone learn?

God Honors His Own Name

My Pastor adds his thoughts to my blog today…

Windborn Church

In our study of Matthew, in the Sermon on the Mount, we have come to what is known as the Lord’s Prayer. Even though we noted it that it’s the disciples prayer because Jesus is teaching us how to pray and that the Lord’s Prayer is recorded in John 17. Here we are taught to honor or hollow God’s holy name and we noted in Ezekiel 36 that as God provides the way of the New Covenant for us He is doing so to uphold His own name!

God is pretty good at honoring His own name (that is the understatement of the year). Let’s start with the “good” of God’s way. Isaiah 33.10 says, “”now I will arise,” says the Lord “now I will be exalted; now I will be lifted up.”” In the context of the chapter, Isaiah stresses the greatness of God’s provision. That His way is…

God will catch you

There is no one like the God of Israel. He rides across the heavens to help you, across the skies in majestic splendor. The eternal God is your refuge, and his everlasting arms are under you.

Deuteronomy 33:26-27 NLT

When you are at the end of your rope, God is there to catch you — but not before.

Erwin W. Lutzer

I get a lot of devotionals by e-mail and one of the best is “God’s Daily Promises” by Tyndale Publishing House.  The above is directly from Today’s selection.  It is so striking, I had to add my thoughts and share it with you.

The thought of God, riding across the heavens to come to my rescue is powerful imagery, but we do know that God is omnipresent.  He never leaves us for a minute!  Nevertheless He rescues me and I need a lot of rescue!  I get into trouble when left to my own devices.  They are usually errors of love, or to be more specific, errors because I do not reflect the love of God as I should.  I get judgmental and Pharisaical.  I do not remember my “pleases” and “Thank-yous” or general manners.  I act so contrary, sometimes even I do not like me!

But God comes to the rescue every time, straightening out my attitude and showing me how to love again, which overlooks a multitude of things.  It’s good to be a child of the King!  God has our back and will not let the enemy wound us mortally; Instead, He comes to the rescue, thwarts the enemy and begins our healing from the trauma of it all…just in the nick of time.

Jesus said we would be known for our love, one for another!  He did not say, “TheImagey are the group over there telling everyone else what they should be doing.”  He did not say, “My people are the ones with the rules and regulations that they are so happy to share with you.”  Instead, He makes the love statement and also says to us, “Of course they hate you, they hate me!  Nothing has changed!”  But He still comes to our rescue and renews us (Presses our reset button) and says, “Let’s try this again.  THIS is my commandment…that you love one another…that your joy may be full.”

He made us, He rides to our rescue, He forgives us all manner of misbehavior, What a God!

My Prayer for you today is that you may experience God’s love…from the inside out…as He rides to your rescue, today.  Peace be unto all of you!

On Mother’s Day…

Proverbs 12:4 (NKJV)
4  An excellent wife is the crown of her husband….

I have been fortunate in my selection of a wife, because she makes me proud in so many ways.  She is the prototype mother, raising two boys and two girls in fine fashion.  They may say they wished some things were different, but that is what free-will is about.

But I cannot really take much credit for my selection…you see I prayed for the right wife since age 12!  God knew who I needed and knew who she needed and placed us together.

I wanted to pay her tribute on this Mother’s Day, because we have been married over 46 years, and you never know how much time you have left.  I don’t mean to be macabre, but you never want to leave anything unsaid.  I love Joyce and she is “the crown of her husband..”; ME!

My prayer for my self today is, “Thank you, Lord, for my special wife.”  Enough said!

What To Do?

Proverbs 3:5-8 (MSG)
Trust GOD from the bottom of your heart; don’t try to figure out everything on your own.
Listen for GOD’s voice in everything you do, everywhere you go; he’s the one who will keep you on track.
Don’t assume that you know it all. Run to GOD! Run from evil!
Your body will glow with health, your very bones will vibrate with life!
This is from the Proverb of the day. The good thing about starting the day with wisdom literature is that it gets you in fellowship with a wise God, who should be part of all your decisions. His Holy Spirit will guide you through difficult decisions, and nothing is impossible with God. Remember the loaves and fishes?
My prayer for you is that you will search your heart today for something you have held back from God. Turn it over to Him. God can do more with it than you can! Amen.

Taking the High Road

GC4I am torn by conflicting feelings regarding recent events, I.e. Boston Marathon bombing, et. al.
I know some of you will not agree with me, but this is not a time for cheap vengeance, making the perpetrator a sympathetic figure or a hero to anarchists. It is not a time to turn to the baser elements of our nature. It is certainly not a time to show that our “might is right.”. But it is a time to show our conviction to our nobler precepts. Love our enemy does not mean we advocate no punishment for perpetrators, but simply expresses forgiveness without absolving him of this devilish series of actions.
Christ and the Apostle Paul spoke of this very thing:

Ephesians 4:31-32 NKJV
Let all bitterness, wrath, anger, clamor, and evil speaking be put away from you, with all malice. And be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God in Christ forgave you.

Matthew 5:43-45 NKJV
“You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’ But I say to you, love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who spitefully use you and persecute you, that you may be sons of your Father in heaven; for He makes His sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust.

The advantage is clear in v45, that we may be sons of God. If we show all the base elements of their enemy, how are we any better? I choose to be like Jesus! God give me strength. I encourage all of you to take the high road, also. The ability to do this in your heart and life is the beginning of a leap from being a believer-only to a true disciple. This is a part of the cost of discipleship.

My prayer for all of you today is that the Holy Spirit will move on each of you with an anointing of love and forgiveness, that you may be more like Jesus and less like the enemy of your soul.

Proverbs 10:7-8 (CEV)
7 Good people are remembered long after they are gone, but the wicked are soon forgotten.
8 If you have good sense, you will listen and obey; if all you do is talk, you will destroy yourself.

This quote is from the Proverb of the Day, this being the tenth of April.  It is ever true.

  • I do not have any delusions about being long revered after I am gone, but it is good to know that my quest for living by the Golden Rule will have a lasting benefit.
  • I do need to listen more and talk less.  This is nothing new to those of you who know me.
  • I have determined to be more uplifting in my blog(s), so be fore-warned!  I am looking for the good to report.  The evil finds us fast enough, without any help from me!
