Daily Prayer – November 18th

Heavenly Father! I thank you for the gift of your Son, who is the Pearl of Great Price; the Hidden Treasure, which makes the soul rich forever; the Delight of Heaven; the Glory of his church; the All-sufficient Portion of his own.

A Heart of Flesh

“And I will give you a heart of flesh.“—Ezekiel xxxvi. 26.

The hard heart does not love the Redeemer, but, the renewed heart burns with affection towards him. Many are the privileges of this renewed heart: “‘Tis here the Spirit dwells, ’tis here that Jesus rests.” It is fitted to receive every spiritual blessing, and every blessing comes to it. It is prepared to yield every heavenly fruit to the honor and praise of God, and therefore the Lord delights in it. A tender heart is the best defense against sin, and the best preparation for heaven. A renewed heart stands on its watertower looking for the coming of the Lord Jesus. Have you this heart of flesh?

Ten Ways to Conquer Worry by Charlie W. Shedd

Matthew 6:27-34 (MSG)
27  “Has anyone by fussing in front of the mirror ever gotten taller by so much as an inch?
28  All this time and money wasted on fashion—do you think it makes that much difference? Instead of looking at the fashions, walk out into the fields and look at the wildflowers. They never primp or shop,
29  but have you ever seen color and design quite like it? The ten best-dressed men and women in the country look shabby alongside them.
30  “If God gives such attention to the appearance of wildflowers—most of which are never even seen—don’t you think he’ll attend to you, take pride in you, do his best for you?
31  What I’m trying to do here is to get you to relax, to not be so preoccupied with getting, so you can respond to God’s giving.
32  People who don’t know God and the way he works fuss over these things, but you know both God and how he works.
33  Steep your life in God-reality, God-initiative, God-provisions. Don’t worry about missing out. You’ll find all your everyday human concerns will be met.
34  “Give your entire attention to what God is doing right now, and don’t get worked up about what may or may not happen tomorrow. God will help you deal with whatever hard things come up when the time comes.

Matthew 6:27-34 (NKJV)
27  Which of you by worrying can add one cubit to his stature?
28  So why do you worry about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin;
29  and yet I say to you that even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these.
30  Now if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is, and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will He not much more clothe you, O you of little faith?
31  Therefore do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’
32  For after all these things the Gentiles seek. For your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things.
33  But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.
34  Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.

  1. “Lord, help me to keep in mind that there is a BIG difference between nervous worry and healthy concern…. each day, all day, may I do your work without fussing.”

  2. ” Heavenly Father, May I never forget that a good father puts his child to bed because his child needs great… Thank you, Lord, for my own sleep and quiet, plus times to do nothing.

  3. “O Divine Creator, you made things to grow and things to diminish… Help me to remember that my problems do have a way of shrinking as I draw closer to them… Thank you for all those times you actually have reduced my troubles overnight.”

  4. “Good Lord, keep me away from the land of ‘What if.’ Help me to remember there is just as much chance it won’t happen as it will… Thank you. Thank you.”

  5. “Creator of the Universe and me, may I never forget that there are hidden reserves in all of us…. You put them there. You can wake mine in my hours of crisis…. I praise you for the strength you stashed away for my emergencies. How great thou art.”

  6. “O Divine Mind, give me wisdom to know that there are some things I am meant to control but some are not for me…. I am truly grateful that you have equipped me with an effective ‘worry or not’ sorter. Help me to use it well for you.”

  7. “Lord of the healthy mind, make me wary of jealousy…. May I ever remember that other people only look as if they have no worries…. And please remind me often that I really would not like to trade places with anyone.”

  8. Keep me checking on my goals, Lord. Often…. When I am worrying over false ambitions, correct me…. If I am reaching where I shouldn’t reach, tap me then too…. And yes, sometimes when I’m getting lazy, guide me to new dreams, new goals for you.”

  9. “God of all people in all the world, when I am unduly anxious, remind me to stop and do something for someone…. a shut-in, a troubled friend, some good cause…. Make me one of your everyday missionaries to the everyday needs of others.”

  10. “Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, minute by minute, day by day, hour by hour, help me to trust you more…. Forever and forever may I love you more, that I may more and more love others for you. …. So may it be—Amen.”
