A Plea for Deliverance and Forgiveness

Forgiveness is a Great Gift

PSALM 25:1-22 NKJV

To You, O Lord , I lift up my soul. O my God, I trust in You; Let me not be ashamed; Let not my enemies triumph over me. Indeed, let no one who waits on You be ashamed; Let those be ashamed who deal treacherously without cause. Show me Your ways, O Lord ; Teach me Your paths. Lead me in Your truth and teach me, For You are the God of my salvation; On You I wait all the day. Remember, O Lord , Your tender mercies and Your lovingkindnesses, For they are from of old. Do not remember the sins of my youth, nor my transgressions; According to Your mercy remember me, For Your goodness’ sake, O Lord . Good and upright is the Lord ; Therefore He teaches sinners in the way. The humble He guides in justice, And the humble He teaches His way. All the paths of the Lord  are mercy and truth, To such as keep His covenant and His testimonies. For Your name’s sake, O Lord , Pardon my iniquity, for it is great. Who is the man that fears the Lord ? Him shall He teach in the way He chooses. He himself shall dwell in prosperity, And his descendants shall inherit the earth. The secret of the Lord  is with those who fear Him, And He will show them His covenant. My eyes are ever toward the Lord , For He shall pluck my feet out of the net. Turn Yourself to me, and have mercy on me, For I am desolate and afflicted. The troubles of my heart have enlarged; Bring me out of my distresses! Look on my affliction and my pain, And forgive all my sins. Consider my enemies, for they are many; And they hate me with cruel hatred. Keep my soul, and deliver me; Let me not be ashamed, for I put my trust in You. Let integrity and uprightness preserve me, For I wait for You. Redeem Israel, O God, Out of all their troubles!

Billy Graham on Truth and Freedom

John 8:36 ESV – So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.

Truth Brings Freedom

The mark of a true Christian is found in his personal relationship to the Person of Jesus Christ. Christianity is Christ. Christ is Christianity. I speak reverently when I say that Jesus is more than His ideas. All that He said was true, but without Him even the truth would have been powerless. Men know the power of truth, and truth is that which sets men free. Jesus said, “I am the truth.”

Daily Prayer

Thank You, Jesus, for the shackles that have been broken in my life!

Prayer of the Day – October 22nd

Today’s Prayer is the one Jesus taught the disciples to pray; (part of the sermon on the mount).

Matthew 6:9-13 (NIV)
9  “This, then, is how you should pray: “‘Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name,
10  your kingdom come, your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
11  Give us today our daily bread.
12  Forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors.
13  And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.’

The Praise-Filled Life VI

JOB 42:2 KJVA – I know that thou canst do every thing , and that no thought can be withholden from thee.
JOB 42:5-6 KJVA – I have heard of thee by the hearing of the ear; but now mine eye seeth thee:  wherefore I abhor myself , and repent in dust and ashes.
Psalm 35:9-10 KJVA – And my soul shall be joyful in the Lord : it shall rejoice in his salvation.  All my bones shall say,  Lord , who is like unto thee, which deliverest the poor from him that is too strong for him, yea, the poor and the needy from him that spoileth him?

The Truth About God and About Us

By Michael Youssef, Ph.D.

An amazing thing happens as we praise God for all He is and does. We see more clearly the truth of His nature. We see that He is the unlimited, holy, eternal King. We see that He is all-knowing, all-wise, and all-powerful. We see Him as loving, merciful, and long-suffering.

When we come to God in praise and adoration, we also see more clearly the truth about ourselves, including the truth of our sinfulness and unworthiness. Let me openly confess that I have never come into the presence of God—praising Him, adoring Him, and honoring Him with the fruit of my lips—when I did not also become more conscious of my own limitations, faults, and sins.

The more we grasp all that God is, the more we face all that we are not.

Job was a man so godly that God bragged about him, but when God revealed His great power, Job replied in humility,

I know that you can do all things; no plan of yours can be thwarted…. My ears had heard of you, but now my eyes have seen you. Therefore I despise myself and repent in dust and ashes (Job 42:2,5-6).

No matter how righteous we are, seeing God’s glory confronts us with the tarnish and stain of our own lives. The reason for this is not to make us walk through life with our heads hanging low, but that we might repent of our sin and rely on God and cry out to Him to forgive us and strengthen us by the power of His Holy Spirit.

Praise God because He gives us an opportunity to see our sin so we can ask Him to work in us, to change us into the men and women we truly desire to become. The prayer of our hearts should always be, “God, make me into the person You want to live with forever!”

Prayer: Holy God, as I learn about who You are, I cannot help but worship You. Everything good comes from You, and Your strength is sufficient in my weakness. Humble me so that I will depend on You fully. I pray in the name of Jesus. Amen.

“My soul will rejoice in the Lord and delight in His salvation. My whole being will exclaim, ‘Who is like You, O Lord?’” (Psalm 35:9-10).

God Provides a Solution

Therefore Yahweh will wait, that he may be gracious to you; and therefore he will be exalted, that he may have mercy on you, for Yahweh is a God of justice. Blessed are all those who wait for him.

God Provides a Solution for Harried Saints

George Santayana once observed, “Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it.” This is precisely the reason the church (i.e. the modern day people of God) is wise to ponder carefully the experience of the Jews in the Old Testament.

By the time Isaiah arrived on the scene in 739 BC, Judah was in big-time trouble. Like the ten tribes of Israel to the north, the two southern tribes had forgotten God and were beginning to experience life apart from his blessing. Isaiah urged them to turn around … or else.

The details vary, but the principles and promise are still valid today. To experience all that God wants for us, we must turn to him—and wait for him in faith. If we ignore him, we do so at our own peril.

God’s Promise to Me
• Return to me, wait for me and I will deliver you.
• You will find strength when you trust me.

My Prayer to God
Lord, you are sovereign and holy. Forgive me for acting as though I am in charge of my own life and for doing unholy things. I will turn to you and wait for you.

Fear and Deliverance

PSALM 34:4-6 ESV

I sought the Lord , and he answered me and delivered me from all my fears.  Those who look to him are radiant, and their faces shall never be ashamed.   This poor man cried, and the Lord heard him and saved him out of all his troubles.

Pray: God, connect with me here, as I seek you in your Word. Begin with focus and openness to see what God has for you.

Read: the selected section of Scripture slowly. Take note of intriguing words and phrases and read them a second time.
Reflect: on what strikes you as you read. Think through what God is communicating to you at this point in your life.

Respond: to the passage. Speak to God directly about what’s on your mind and heart. Look for ways to live out what you’ve uncovered.

Plan for Suffering! By Billy Graham [REVISED]

Today I am reading day 26 of Day By Day With Billy Graham:

This is a faithful saying and worthy of all acceptance. For to this end we both labor and suffer reproach, because we trust in the living God, who is the Savior of all men, especially of those who believe.
Plan for Suffering

Our life has its beginning in suffering. Life’s span is marked by pain and tragedy, and our lives terminate with the enemy called death. The person who expects to escape the pangs of suffering and disappointment simply has no knowledge of the Bible, of history, or of life. The master musician knows that suffering precedes glory and acclaim. He knows the hours, days, and months of grueling practice and self-sacrifice that precede the one hour of perfect rendition when his mastership is applauded. The student knows that years of study, privation and self-renunciation precede the triumphant day of graduation and honors. Yes, there are clouds of suffering for each one of us, but God says, “I come to you in the thick dark cloud of suffering,” By faith you can see His blessed face in the storm. God has His plan and purpose in all suffering.

Daily Prayer

Heavenly Father, help me to remember that none of my suffering is in vain. Through it teach me more of Your love and comfort.
