…It’s About the Journey…

Sometimes, it’s not about the destination…it’s about the journey.  Perhaps you will disagree with me, and you are welcome to comment freely.  We can handle our plights in this life with grace or scream bloody murder.  I submit that being Christ-like involves our demeanor more than our position in life’s journey.

Daryl at Christmas 2013

Prosperity preachers will try to persuade you to measure your life’s progress by wealth (how much has God blessed you with).  But doesn’t God measure us by how much we love one another?  This is how much you give, not how much you get.  If we reflect God’s love by giving to those in need, it subtracts from our wealth.  Is this to say God has blessed us less?…because we followed His will in giving away our resources? Nonsense!  The prosperity preacher has it wrong…we gain by giving, not by getting!
Luke 6:38 NIV – Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.”

Those who travel with excess comforts already have their reward, but those who go through life’s journey with hardship, but persevere to the end will be rewarded.

This is why I say, “It’s about the journey, not the destination.”  You may end up at the same place, but travelling in Christ’s style has its benefits.

As a side note, there are some who try to define the elements which qualify one for salvation.  In other words, what do I have to do to get to Heaven?  This makes our walk with God an experience pointed toward the destination, I,e,, Heaven, when obviously, there is nothing you can do to “earn” Heaven.  Jesus did it all.  But that does not mean we are free from living a virtuous life.  We live for Christ, not to earn salvation, but to be like Jesus…it’s about a journey with Christ that is rewarding and  fulfilling because He is along beside us, showing the benefit of virtuous living.  It’s not so much about the destination of getting to the everlasting city as it is about our adventures with Christ along the way.  I cannot wait for the next episode of this adventure with my friend, Jesus.  It is about the journey!

  1. Thank you, brother. If I had known what was in store for me at the time I wrote this, I probably would have wavered. Thank you for your continued prayers.
